About Us

Facilities

Established in 2002 by artist Holly Fisher, Smartshop Metal Arts Center(SMAC) is a Metalworking School and Gallery in Kalamazoo, Michigan. SMAC is a comprehensive arts facility whose purpose is to foster the creativity of its clients and inspire the community through gallery presentations from a diverse range of artists and media.

In 2004, Holly Fisher was awarded a $100,000 grant from Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm as part of the "Cool Cities Initiative". This grant was used to renovate Smartshop's new facilities. Associates and students enjoy making art in this exciting environment.

SMAC offers an affordable option to artists who can not justify setting up a studio of their own. Shop Techs are present to insure safety and offer assistance during open studio hours.

Our Mission: To teach, support, promote and practice the Metal Arts.
