Women's Welding Weekend

A three day workshop designed specifically for women who want to weld! Our spacious and beautiful studio will inspire you to find your inner fire and create wonderful works of metal art in just hours. Holly Fisher, a nationally recognized metals sculptor, will serve as your instructor. You'll enjoy lively, hands-on instruction while you learn MIG welding, plasma cutting, basic methods for fabrication and a variety of metal finishing techniques.

Further Adventures in Artistic Welding

Refine your skills from Intro to Welding, learn more amazing metalworking skills, and aspire to make more complex projects! Gas welding, brazing, TIG welding, and specialized fabrication techniques will be demonstrated as well as many other "tricks of the trade." Novice to intermediate students will enjoy this fast paced, hands on learning experience. Most materials provided. All safety gear provided.

Taster/Mini Workshops

Making Dice

Saturday Open Studio is a great way for you to enjoy SmartShop's studio and work on  your own project. you must have taken at least one SmartShop class in the last two years to be eligible.

Refine and Combine: Forging & Welding Steel

Focus on refining and combing your welding and blacksmithing skills in this exciting, inspiring class. Demonstrations include basic hand hammer techniques, jig making and use, special techniques for getting the most out of your welding equipment, the ever famous “weld-forging” trick, and much more.

Intermediate Metals

A huge studio and a small class of fun and inspiring individuals, as well as an experienced, enthusiastic instructor makes for a great experience. Intermediate Metals is a great forum to build upon your previous experience in welding, blacksmithing, and sculptural processes.

Sculpture from Found Objects

Study the great found-object sculptors like David Smith, Louise Nevelson, and Joseph Cornell while refining your MIG welding, arc welding, gas welding, brazing and assembly skills. Learn new techniques as they apply to your projects.

Tools & Techniques

Students will learn the basics of metalworking while completing several very cool and useful projects including a garden trellis, small treasure box, patchwork animal, flower and other projects of their choosing.

Intro to Welding
