3-D Fish Sculptures

If your passion lies in the world of nature then this workshop is for you! This intermediate sculpture class taught by Jon Reeves will have you working with three dimensional metals to create a beautiful fish sculpture.  This two day workshop brings together forging, hot and cold shaping, found and created components, and finishing techniques. Bring a picture of your favorite fish or create one from your imagination! All materials and safety gear provided.

Stage Combat Weaponry

Whether you're practicing for a role in a Shakespearean play or preparing for war against a zombie army, this class is for you! Stage combat instructor Jon Reeves will guide you in the art of stage weaponry and help you create your own theatrical weapon. Weapons from all periods real and imagined will be on display to inspire you. You will learn forging, bending and finishing skills for your blade as well as woodworking techniques for your handle. For ambitious warriors, Jon will also cover options for sheaths and displays. All materials and safety gear provided.

An introduction to the ancient art of blacksmithing tailored for kids and young adults ages 10-16! Introduce your budding blacksmith to the excitement and satisfaction of working with their hands. Each student will walk away with a finished piece they can be proud of. They'll have so much fun that you'll wish you were a kid again! All safety gear and materials provided.

Metals Mania Summer Camp

Gather your children around the forge this summer for our three-day Copper Camp. Your young artists, scientists, historians, and adventurers will learn all about copper through field trips, visiting artists, hands-on metal projects, games, themed lunches and demonstrations. Campers will make a copper bowl, a bookmark, a super-cool enameled manga character and have so much fun, they won't realize they are learning. Parents are invited for a demonstration and refreshments on the last day. It's bound to be a blast. You'll wish you were a kid again.

Taster/Mini Workshops

Making Dice

Saturday Open Studio is a great way for you to enjoy SmartShop's studio and work on  your own project. you must have taken at least one SmartShop class in the last two years to be eligible.

Whether you’ve had a little or a lot of forging experience, you’re sure to get a great result from this thrilling and productive workshop. You’ll learn several techniques for forging a one-piece knife from high carbon steel.

Refine and Combine: Forging & Welding Steel

Focus on refining and combing your welding and blacksmithing skills in this exciting, inspiring class. Demonstrations include basic hand hammer techniques, jig making and use, special techniques for getting the most out of your welding equipment, the ever famous “weld-forging” trick, and much more.

Intermediate Metals

A huge studio and a small class of fun and inspiring individuals, as well as an experienced, enthusiastic instructor makes for a great experience. Intermediate Metals is a great forum to build upon your previous experience in welding, blacksmithing, and sculptural processes.
